Left Behind Books
It is no surprise that the Left Behind series of books, written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, has sold over 11 million copies. Appealing to Christians, due to it’s main focus being based on Dr. LaHaye’s interpretation of the Book of Revelation, it can also appeal to non-Christians as an action packed adventure series, packed full with everything a reader might expect in a series of novels based around the end of the world.
The series begins by introducing a few key characters and describes their journey through life as the rapture begins, a time when all Christians are supposed to be brought to heaven while the anti-Christ wreaks havoc on the world. As those key characters develop, they become closer to God and more religious and attempt to help others see the error of their ways, converting people to Christianity so that they will enjoy the rapture and be saved and taken from earth.
According to many sources, Left Behind is the best selling Christian prophecy book series, nearly outselling the Harry Potter series of books and with good reason. The author’s depict the end of days, closely following the Book of Revelation, in a way putting life to the prophecy that talks of an anti-Christ coming down to earth and doing battle with Christ as he returns for the second coming.
Action packed and filled with drama and romance, it is worth the read even for those that are not Christian or religious. Also, for those that are not religious, it may serve as a learning tool or perhaps lead them to explore Christianity in order to find more information about the rapture from the Bible and the Book of Revelations. There are currently 16 books that follow the Left Behind series with a few of them being prequels which talk more about the main characters and what they were doing before the Rapture started.
